R&D Test Engineer

Role Summary:

New Product Development (NPD) Test Lab Engineers are responsible for providing engineering support across all aspects of new product development testing efforts. This includes concept development, creating diagrams, preparing and building test equipment, executing physical tests, using graphical programming languages, supporting IT operations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver industry-leading products.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate across project teams to design and produce new industry-leading products and tests within the Pumps Division
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the technical aspects of designing, maintaining, version control, and troubleshooting graphical programming language (LabVIEW code).
  • Develop new automation systems and implement test programs.
  • Lead initiatives to standardize site safety policies across all New Product Development Test Labs.
  • Continuously update technical knowledge and skills.
  • Investigate mechanical faults and test stand failures, implementing necessary corrective actions.
  • Assist customers in achieving their testing objectives by supporting on-time delivery (OTD) with accurate test data and equipment root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Provide support for the maintenance and operation of high-precision measurement systems.
  • Ensure quality, reliability, and market competitiveness in all product designs and applications through adherence to engineering standards and processes.
  • Collaborate with customer engineers on test plans, product design, and process enhancements.
  • Identify and implement new technical training programs to enhance the skills of testing personnel.
  • Lead the specification, design, and procurement of fixtures and materials for testing.
  • Standardize graphical programming language (LabVIEW code) for version control and process enhancement.
  • Maintain broad computer and engineering knowledge of state-of-the-art testing trends through reviewing technical publications, participating in technical conferences, interfacing with external technical resources, and engaging in internal opportunities.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a similar technical degree.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to apply technology creatively to solve business and stakeholder needs.
  • Must be willing and able to safely perform hands-on assembly and test set-up work.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and designing equipment manuals, piping, and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 10% domestically and internationally.
  • Must be on site in Bethlehem, PA Monday through Thursday, with Friday being a flexible remote workday.  Some instances may call for on-site work on occasional Fridays as well.

 Preferred Experience / Skills:

  • Knowledge and understanding of 2D and 3D drafting and modeling, with a preference for SolidWorks experience.
  • Familiarity with rotating equipment and motors.
  • Experience in test documentation.
  • NI graphical programming (LabVIEW) certification.
