Hitachi Energy Research, in close collaboration with our business areas, is developing foundations for the next generation of Power Grids products. Located in the proximity of Zurich, the research center employs approximately 65 scientists from all over the world with cross-disciplinary expertise. In the System Integration and Physics Group, we perform cutting-edge research and look at various aspects of making the power system stronger, smarter and greener. We focus on the challenges and opportunities in enhancing grid flexibility and facilitating renewable energy transition. In this context, we offer a 6 months internship position which provides the opportunity of working on real-world projects in an international team of research scientists.
How you’ll make an impact
Contribution to the development of a MATLAB-based tool for fast design and optimization of magnetic components for power-electronics applications
Development of a data-based model for high-frequency winding losses, including skin and proximity effect
Definition of the parameter space and model-based exploration of this parameter space using electromagnetic simulations with COMSOL Multiphysics
Creation of a meta model based on the explored data
Implementation of the model in a MATLAB function, thorough testing, and documentation
Collaboration with R&D team and experts in magnetics and simulation
Your background
Official enrolment in a MSc program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a similar discipline
Knowledge of MATLAB, COMSOL Multiphysics, and the finite-element method is a strong plus
Enthusiastic, self-motivated mindset and ability to work independently
Highly conscientious individual with keen sense of responsibility
Fluent command of English, written and spoken
Due to Swiss law, for foreign non-EU/EFTA students, the internship must be a mandatory part of the study program
