The Radiology Technologist Assistant plays a vital role in the safe, smooth and efficient delivery of diagnostic imaging care to patients of all ages. Working closely with all members of the radiology team, he/she is responsible for providing a clean and safe environment as well as functioning as transporter, clerical assistant, and runner for supplies. This individual assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment by performing room cleaning and room preparation tasks, cleaning the department traffic areas, stocking supplies and performing end-of-the-day cleaning tasks.The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
Identifies opportunities to improve patient experience. Participates in projects/programs designed to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction
Performs 2 patient identifiers (full name and date of birth) and verifies with wrist band
Provides basic education to patients regarding examinations and/or refers questions to appropriate personnel to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety
Transfers and assists with positioning of patient according to no-lift protocols and guidelines
Performs procedure room turnover tasks between cases in preparation for patient procedures
Performs clerical provider duties. This includes collecting documents and generating data required for procedures
Provides assistance with outside image imports and electronic image sharing to include CD burning
Provides assistance with contacting on call radiologists to speak with providers or technologists and assists with escalation of requesting exam dictations from radiologists
Restocks procedure rooms and supply carts
Directs and comforts families during patient transport and prep
Handles and disposes of waste, used linen and refuse from multiple areas per policy
Reports defective equipment to department supervisor or appropriate personnel
Inventories emergency supplies, restocks as needed, and documents per protocol
Actively demonstrates responsibility concerning patient satisfaction
Other duties as assigned
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
High school graduate or equivalent required
Current BLS certification required
None
Excellent guest relations skills
Verbal and written skills required
Ability to read English
Ability to accept supervision from a multidisciplinary team
Flexible in approach to work tasks and schedules
Ability to work variable shifts
Much standing, walking, bending and lifting
Possess visual and auditory acuity for observing patients
Position involves exposure to blood and body secretions and may involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
