RA Core Services SWE

Mountain View, CA, USA Full Time

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

The Fleet Response team's mission is to accelerate the safe deployment of Waymo's autonomous technology. Fleet Response operates at the cutting edge of our autonomous driving operations. In certain highly ambiguous or complex situations, the Waymo Driver can request the assistance of human Fleet Response Operators (FROs) to provide extra context and information. Our team works at the leading edge of Waymo's technology, figuring out how to combine on-vehicle and off-vehicle resources to get our autonomously driven vehicles on the road faster.

You will:

  • Leverage offboard resources to help our self-driving vehicles in highly ambiguous or complex situations.
  • Prototype and deploy safe, robust, and reliable solutions to real-world challenges in autonomous driving.

  • Work closely with our users, the Fleet Response Operations team.
  • Work on mission-critical systems and infrastructure to support Waymo’s state-of-the-art fleet.
  • Have the opportunity to work on the full length and breadth of the problem (web apps, distributed systems, data analysis, etc)

You have:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or similar technical field of study
  • X years of industry experience with distributed systems
  • Experience with C++, Java, or related structured programming language
  • A generalist mindset, willing to learn a breadth of new skills
  • Enjoyment from working closely with your users

We prefer:
