Overview & Responsibilities

Purpose of the Job

The Quality Technician is responsible for providing administrative and technical assistance to the Quality Assurance and Inspection Departments. The Quality Technician will be tasked with supporting Quality Engineers and Quality Managers by using various data and information systems to manage manufacturing records and support project execution.

Specific Job Responsibilities and Competencies

  • Manages the preparation and compilation of Quality Assurance Manufacturing Data Records (QA MDR) for submittal to customers, utilizing internal databases (Oracle, Windchill, Lotus Notes…) to ensure accurate and timely data management.

  • Assist the project team obtaining necessary inspection records as requested by customers in advance of QA MDR creation.

  • Support review of the inspection records and the QA MDR with any customer representative or 3rd party inspector.

  • Initiates nonconformances on documentation and inspection issues identified during review of inspection and test records. 

  • Manage the preparation, communication and tracking of Notification of Inspections (NOI) for customer witness and observe surveillance points as identified in the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP).

  • Collaborate with teams to maintain and enhance established systems, processes and forms for collecting and managing inspection and test data.

  • Support revision of related work instructions, component plans and process specifications.

  • Support projects to improve the management of inspection records, QA MDRs and NOIs processes.

  • Perform data sorting, investigation and analysis to support quality related investigations as necessary.

  • As an internal audit team member assist with internal quality audits.

  • Coordinate with internal organizations to execute daily job functions.

  • Coordinate with customers and suppliers for review and interpretation of quality requirements and inspection points.

  • Clearly and concisely summarizes process and product testing information.

  • Works to obtain and maintain American Society for Quality membership and certification as a Quality Technician.

Background and Experience

  • Associate’s degree, preferably in Quality, Technical or other related fields.

  • Minimum of 2 years' technical experience (or a Bachelor's degree in an applicable field) with manufacturing processes, including welding, NDE, metrology, and QA/QC.

  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., ASME, API, ASNT, ISO 9001).

  • Beginning knowledge of product specifications and features

  • Beginning knowledge of manufacturing processes, inspection methods and procedures, inspection equipment, nondestructive testing techniques and quality engineering including analytical skills.

  • Familiarity with standard operational processes within Quality.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of influencing key stakeholders and collaborating across teams. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Adobe.

  • Proficient with personal computers, including use of applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Adobe.
