Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- The QC Lab Support role is fundamental to the successful, compliant operation of the QC Lab, ensuring technicians have the materials and environment needed for accurate testing.
- Central responsibility for preparing, labeling, and quality documentation of all microbiological media, buffers, and cleaning solutions. This includes accurate weighing, pH adjustment, autoclaving, and log entries.
- Responsible for daily lab cleaning and managing waste streams (regular, chemical, solid biohazard, and liquid biohazard).
- Strict adherence to Good Documentation Practices (GDP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and Aseptic Technique to maintain the integrity of the BSL-2 lab environment.
- Perform daily temperature logging for critical equipment (incubators, refrigerators, freezers), assist with routine preventative maintenance (PM) tasks, perform pH meter calibration, and operate/document use of the autoclave and glassware dishwasher.
- Assist other technicians with basic tasks, submit IT and Facilities support requests, and serve as a designated trainer for new hires on Lab Support core duties.

- Technical & Foundational Skills: Demonstrates a willingness to learn and execute fundamental laboratory support techniques, including aseptic practices, weighing materials, operating autoclaves/dishwashers, and managing waste.
- Communication & Collaboration: Communicates clearly and effectively to coordinate lab supply needs and report immediate safety or quality concerns to the Supervisor or Manager.
- Performance & Accountability: Highly dependable, consistently follows instructions and established procedures (SOPs), and takes responsibility for maintaining the lab’s operational readiness.

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- No prior experience is required as this is an entry-level position. Prior laboratory or commercial experience with material preparation, cleaning, or precise documentation is preferred.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, work instructions, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in English.
- Ability to clearly and legibly record data and initials on logs and forms, which is critical for GDP compliance.
- Ability to communicate clearly (orally and written) with team members and management.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) for accurate weighing and dilution calculations when preparing media and cleaning solutions.
Computer Skills:
- Basic knowledge of computers and operating systems, including the ability to effectively communicate electronically and use portals for submitting support requests (IT, Facilities, Media).
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) is preferred but not required.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, or hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit, especially when performing lab maintenance and preparation tasks.
- Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, such as media bottles or equipment.
- Employee must pass a standardized color deficiency test with a score of > 80%.
Work Environment:
- Laboratory environment with potential exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
- Frequently exposed to biological agents and potentially pathogenic microorganisms.
- Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic agents used in laboratory procedures.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, with occasional louder noises from equipment like autoclaves.
