Job Summary
The QA Automation Engineer III is responsible for designing and implementing test automation within both agile and waterfall teams for core application projects that impact our care center, clients, and customers. This role collaborates closely with team members to ensure automated testing provides comprehensive coverage for all requirements. The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and hands-on experience with Playwright and Cypress to develop and maintain reusable automated scripts for regression, smoke, and functional testing. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, API testing, and modern web technologies is essential, along with proficiency in debugging tools and version control systems. Exposure to cloud environments and performance testing is a plus. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with strong problem-solving skills and a passion for delivering high-quality, reliable software solutions.
 
Essential Job Functions
Test Design: Writes automation test scripts using an object-oriented Ruby Cucumber framework for multiple applications like Web based, Web services and Database. Contribute to extending the existing framework.
Test Execution & Reporting: Executes tests as needed during throughout the project. Analyze and report test results. Identifies and tracks defects through their lifecycle. Utilizing defect management and organization skills, provide progress and metrics on test execution and defects to project team. Provide leadership while contributing to team and company objectives. Follow team and company standards and contribute to refine and improve process and procedure. Ability to define and maintain test data.
Subject Matter Expert: Develops and maintains expert understanding of all of the components and functionality of the system and framework. Provides guidance, mentoring, and training on testing practices and advises impacts for system changes.
Business Communications: Demonstrates foundational knowledge of credit card operations, banking, financial, loyalty rewards, and credit card regulatory while working with various areas of the business. Demonstrates leadership by driving the automated testing of projects and collaborate with stakeholders in understanding the testing needs and reporting on testing results.

Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements
(Remote or Hybrid), 3 to 4 days per month are required in office if within 60 miles of a posted Bread Financial location.
Normal office environment, some travel may be required.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
5+ years experience in software engineering
Preferred Experience
Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript for writing and maintaining automated test scripts.
Hands-on experience with Playwright and Cypress for end-to-end and UI testing.
Strong understanding of automated testing frameworks and best practices.
Experience developing reusable automated scripts for regression, smoke, and functional testing.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into build processes (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline).
Familiarity with API testing tools (e.g., Postman, REST Assured) and ability to automate API validations.
Understanding of modern web technologies (HTML, CSS, DOM, React/Angular) to troubleshoot UI issues.
Experience with test reporting and debugging tools (e.g., Allure, Playwright Trace Viewer).
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify edge cases and performance bottlenecks.
Knowledge of version control systems (Git) and collaborative workflows.
Exposure to AWS cloud services for test environments and deployments.
Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes) for scalable test setups.
Bachelor’s Degree(BE/BTech) Area of Study: Computer Science/Information Technology or Equal Technical Degree
7 or more years of relevant work experience
Certifications: International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB), Certified Agile Tester (CAT), Certified Software Test Professional (CSTP), and/or Chartered Market Technician (CMT)

Salary Range (unless otherwise noted below):
$87,900.00 - $159,200.00Full Salary Range for position:
California: $101,000.00 - $198,900.00Colorado: $87,900.00 - $167,100.00New York: $96,600.00 - $198,900.00Washington: $92,200.00 - $183,000.00Maryland: $92,200.00 - $175,100.00Washington DC: $101,000.00 - $183,000.00Illinois: $87,900.00 - $175,100.00New Jersey: $101,000.00 - $183,000.00Vermont: $87,900.00 - $159,200.00The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.
Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan.
All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time (“PSST”) upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.
Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
