About our Team
Within Elsevier’s Science, Technology and Medical Journal (STMJ) publishing division, we are seeking a Publishing Ethics Analyst to strengthen our team and provide support and advice to Ethics Experts, Editors and Publishers in coordinating and handling ethical allegations mostly related to published content.
STM Journals publishes more than 2,600 peer-reviewed journals. Elsevier is committed to nurturing and upholding research integrity within our journals and within the wider research community. The role of the Publishing Ethics Analyst is to support the Research Integrity & Publishing Ethics team to resolve allegations of misconduct, provide input on initiatives and activities that seek to detect unethical practices at submission, and to assist journal Editors and Publishers with all aspects of research integrity.
About the Role
We are seeking a collaborative and analytical colleague, who is highly organised, can prioritize their work, is meticulous in their fact-checking, and has strong communication skills. Applicants will be interested in research integrity and publishing ethics and have some experience in publishing or related organisations, or research integrity within academic settings.
Responsibilities
Communicating with authors, reviewers, editors and publishing teams around allegations about unethical behavior in a precise, diplomatic manner
Gathering and sharing insights to propose changes to editorial and research integrity workflows and processes in response to new behaviors or challenges
Sharing insights around new behaviors and challenges in research integrity with Publishing teams and other colleagues and making recommendations which seek to detect or prevent these behaviors undefined
Providing recommendations to members of the Research Integrity & Publishing Ethics team, Publishers, Editors and learned societies for the resolution of ethical concerns
Providing feedback to product managers regarding potential new features or improvements to existing features, and participating in testing of new features and improvements
Becoming an expert in the use of technologies and tools to provide insights into potential unethical behaviors and providing feedback regarding potential new features or improvements
Becoming an expert in publishing ethics best practices and becoming a trusted partner to internal and external stakeholders
Requirements
Have relevant 1-2 years demonstrable experience of scientific and medical publishing
Have knowledge of peer-review and the publishing process
Have excellent communication skills
Display excellent analytical, organizational and prioritization skills
Have the ability to work methodically, problem-solve and fact-check
