Overview
The Protection Officer I RMHRC works under the supervision of the RMHRC Supervisor. The officer performs functions to protect facility and personnel from property loss and criminal activity. Provides services and assistance, as outlined by policies and procedures and directed by Management, to make the facility safe for employees, patients and visitors and to meet the expectations of Riverside Health.
What you will do
- Respond with flexibility to changes and adapt to varying work assignments. Monitor fire, intrusion, duress, and security alarm systems and responds as appropriate. Maintain a working knowledge of Genetec access and video systems, to include Worxhub Function in emergency circumstances as directed. Operates communications equipment in keeping with assigned duties.
- Maintain positive public relations with the community. Escort employees, visitors, and patients as requested. Assist with transportation and lifting of patients as requested. Assist with providing contraband searching/wanding. Direct and assist patients, visitors, employees, contractors, and other members of the public to the appropriate parking areas. Direct persons to the appropriate entrance of the facility. Assist with employee, contractors, and visitor badging, ensure all persons are in compliance with established policies.
- Makes rounds on interior and exterior of the campus to prevent and detect criminal activity. Write traffic warnings and incident reports. Ensure radio equipment, Vocera and PPE is in verification of working order and report deficiencies to Supervisor.
- Demonstrate the ability to work with new employee/co-workers to enhance retention and help reduce turnover of staff. - Keep files and SOPs current. Make written reports of incidents or unusual circumstances with which confronted with while on duty, including safety and fire hazards. Provide appropriate and detailed information in reports about incidents or concerns for quality monitoring thru rCare and pass downs.
- Safety Practices - Bring to the attention of the RMHRC Supervisor, any accidents, injuries, safety matters, or protection problems. Complete computer based training and other employee training modules necessary for position to remain up to date on safety issues, procedures and processes. Identify opportunities for service improvement and participates in process improvement and departmental in-services. Responsible for ensuring safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals and in accordance with RHS policies and procedures. Demonstrate the ability to keep work area neat, clean and in compliance with RHS, NFPA, ISO, DNV and State safety standards.
- Demonstrate ability to prioritize and accomplish assignments with accuracy and timeliness ( work assignments completed by deadlines, received minimal customer complaints). Adheres to policy and procedure. Demonstrate ability to maintain logs, input work orders into Worxhub, SOPs, complete training modules, fire extinguishers, radios, Genetec, Worxhub and equipment. Initiate performance improvement efforts and monitoring, review goals, accomplishments, policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED, (Preferred)
Experience
- 1 year Prior experience with security in a health care or other setting (Preferred)
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to prioritize and accomplish assignments with accuracy and timeliness (work assignments completed by deadlines, receive minimal customer complaints)
- Ability to respond with flexibility to changes and adapt to varying work assignments

Licenses and Certifications
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 90 Days(Required) and
- Certified Auto External Defibrillator (AED) - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) If CPR is not BLS certification, AED is also required within 90 Days(Required)
- Certified Crisis Prevention (CPI) - The Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Required within 15 days of hire (Required)
