About the Role:
As a Fire Alarm Project Systems Specialist at Johnson Controls, you will be a key technical and project resource for the successful delivery of complex fire alarm and life safety projects. You’ll oversee the system design, engineering, and technical coordination of fire alarm, VESDA, and special hazard projects from kickoff through commissioning. This role bridges field installation, customer needs, technical design, and project management—ensuring projects meet code, quality, and schedule requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical lead for large complex fire alarm projects—including review of project plans, specifications, and site requirements.

  • Coordinate and oversee fire alarm system layout, setup, programming, testing, and commissioning to ensure code compliance and customer satisfaction.

  • Develop and review project submittals, shop drawings, and bill of materials.

  • Work closely with design teams, CAD technicians, project managers, and field technicians to ensure accurate and timely completion of deliverables.

  • Conduct site walk-throughs, attend project meetings, and communicate technical requirements with contractors, electrical sub-contractors, and end-users.

  • Ensure systems are installed and commissioned in accordance with local codes and standards, manufacturer requirements, and customer contract documents.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve field technical issues as needed; provide support and guidance to field technicians and installers.

  • Track project progress, verify installations, and help ensure deadlines and budget targets are met.

  • Support final testing, inspections, and turnover/warranty documentation for completed systems.

  • Mentor junior staff and provide training on best practices and code interpretations as required.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in fire alarm system design, installation, project coordination, or commissioning (field or office).

  • Proven hands-on technical knowledge of large complex fire alarm, VESDA, or similar life safety systems (Simplex, Notifier, or similar platforms preferred).

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical diagrams, construction documents, and technical specifications.

  • Familiarity with BCBC, CEC and ULC codes and standards for fire alarm and life safety systems.

  • Strong organization, communication, and project coordination skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with project management or documentation tools; CAD or system design software experience a plus.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering, electrical,  electronics, or related discipline preferred.

  • CFAA certification in Fire Alarm Systems preferred or willingness to obtain.

  • Ability to travel locally to project sites as required; valid driver’s license.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $46.60-$57.94 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)  This position includes a competitive benefits package.
