ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Supports the new wastewater and water customer organic growth process by analyzing and finding solutions to new service connection requests.
  • Evaluates new connection requests to determine if Aqua can provide service.
  • Perform capacity analysis for Aqua’s existing water/sewer infrastructure.
  • Reviews proposed utility plans submitted by 3rd parties to ensures proposed water and wastewater assets are specified per Aqua engineering standards.
  • Review DEP planning modules and planning module mailer exemption requests submitted by 3rd party engineers and provide comments and obtain capacity verification signatures. 
  • Review design drawings and water quality management permits for new pump stations or pump station upgrades to serve new developments.
  • Review and approve shop drawings for wastewater main extensions and appurtenances, pump stations and grease traps. 
  • Work with construction inspector to assure construction is proceeding in accordance with design specifications.  
  • Assist property owners in all stages of the process to connect to Aqua’s water or wastewater infrastructure.
  • Works with Aqua approved contractors to extend sewer mains or service laterals for new connections. 
  • Works with Aqua Engineering & planning teams to ensure new growth throughout Aqua’s territories is evaluated wholistically for short- and long-term capacity requirements.
  • Prepares regulatory reports including, but not limited, to Act 537 Planning modules and studies.
  • Utilizes the company’s financial Information System and capital budget system for project authorization and project tracking.
  • Prepares planning studies and reports to guide management of future system needs and improvements.
  • Articulates technical problems, design issues and potential solutions in layman’s terms to businesses, engineering, and operating teams as well as external organizations and customers.
  • Provide support for the overall management and technical analyses for all New Business Work.
  • Assists with other tasks or projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required. Civil or environmental discipline with a focus on water/wastewater is preferred, but not required.

  • Must have or obtain an Engineer in Training Certificate within two years of employment.

  • Three or more years of experience in water and wastewater is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: (Examples below)

  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills are required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills (tact, diplomacy, persuasion, cooperation)

  • The ability to effectively coordinate and keep track of multiple projects simultaneously

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc. required.; experience with PROCORE, GIS, Bluebeam, AutoCAD and coding a plus.

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • A team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environment     

  • Familiarity with PA Department of Environmental Protection regulations and permitting process preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Perform sedentary work- exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.                       
  • See, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.                                    
  • Operate standard office equipment.      
  • Working conditions may include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents
  • Travel Requirements up to 20 %
