As a part of its Climate Health work, PATH focuses on three critical areas: climate-informed decision-making, sustainable solutions, and resilient health systems. PATH supports governments & innovators in the following areas in climate change and human health:

  • Evidence generation & thought leadership to guide climate health efforts.
  • Technical assistance for the integration of climate impacts into health systems.
  • Accelerating climate-health innovations.
  • Convening the climate-health ecosystem.

PATH’s work on Climate Change and Health:

As part of the expanding work on health systems strengthening and addressing the need to enhance health systems resilience, PATH started building a portfolio on climate change and human health in 2022 and is engaging with various multilateral and bilateral organizations to advance global action on climate change and its impact on human health. Some of the work that we have undertaken includes:

  • The Climate x Health Adaptation and Resilience Tool (CHART): We are co-designing a digital climate and health adaptation and resilience tool with local health system actors and communities in India to help identify and implement effective maternal, newborn and child health interventions.
  • Climate-informed AI-based Early Warning System for Vector-Borne Diseases (Sanketak): We are developing Sanketak, an AI-driven decision-support tool integrating data digitisation, geospatial visualisation, entomological modelling, and predictive analytics to enable climate-informed prediction and management of vector-borne diseases in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Climate Health policy assessments and roadmap development for CWA: We are conducting a technical assessment of climate change impacts, including glacial melt, extreme weather, and cascading water, food, and energy risks, on health systems and vulnerable upland communities in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and the Kyrgyz Republic.
  • Brazil Value-Enhancing Reforms for Development and Ecological Sustainability (VERDES) Climate Policy-Based Financing – We are supporting Brazil’s ecological transformation by strengthening climate–health resilience through technical assistance to the Ministry of Health for implementing AdaptaSUS by capacity building to mitigate health impacts of extreme heat and air pollution ahead of COP30.
