The Program Coordinator I is responsible for field supervision of the training staff and for onboarding new hires. Onboarding duties include, but are not limited to, interviewing, commercial learners permitting, Entry Level Driver’s Training (ELDT), and Training scheduling.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of teaching/training experience or office administration experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Ability to handle busy phone, 2-way radio, and office traffic, and to perform time-critical tasks reliably.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid State of Texas class "B" vehicle driver license (Commercial Driver License) with passenger endorsement and air brakes endorsement.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and move medium-weight objects, bend, stoop, and assist and/or move people with disabilities as they board/off-board the bus and other campus vehicles. 

  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions including heat, rain, and/or cold.

Other Requirements and Factors:

  • Persons in this position are considered essential during university emergencies, campus closures, or class cancellations, requiring readiness to respond promptly to Transit needs.

  • Must be able to work rotating job duties within a set schedule.

  • May be required to work non-traditional hours to include some nights, weekends, holidays, and all home football games.

  • This position will be covered by Department of Transportation regulations and is required to be in a random drug and alcohol testing pool and take a pre-employment drug test. 

  • This position is security sensitive.

  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules, and procedures.

  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Field Observation- Responsible for directly observing trainers and instructors during their training sessions to evaluate instructional techniques and effectiveness. Must provide timely and constructive verbal and written feedback to enhance training quality and ensure adherence to standardized procedures and safety protocols. Conducts ride checks on transit drivers to assess driving performance, compliance with safety standards, customer service, and route accuracy, which includes documenting observations and offering feedback as needed. Observes field operations to identify inefficiencies or safety concerns, recommends improvements, and works with management to implement operational enhancements. Responds to transit vehicle accidents. Inspects both on-campus and off-campus transit stops to ensure safety, cleanliness, accessibility, and compliance with signage and ADA standards, and reports any identified issues promptly. Monitors driver adherence to established policies and procedures, addresses inconsistencies in driving habits, and provides coaching or refresher training to maintain consistent and safe transit operations.

  • Interviews/Scheduling- Collaborates with other Program Coordinator I regarding the onboarding process, to include setting and conducting interviews, scheduling CLP/ELDT/Phases I, II, and III trainings, and coordinating the logistics involved with employees obtaining their CLP and CDL from DPS offices.

  • Supervision- Responsible for supervision of the training program. Monitors effectiveness and efficiency in customer service and operational soundness. Assumes ownership of projects. Supervises and monitors trainers, instructors, and drivers for adherence to policies and procedures including ensuring that all state laws, federal laws, university rules, and Transportation Services policies and expectations are being followed. Documents and distributes action forms to employees. Maintains manager’s notes and documents corrective action for all employees.  Responsible for approving time worked and leave requests for full-time and part-time drivers and for conducting performance feedback and evaluations. Assists as needed by driving routes and charters, dispatching, providing mobile supervision, assisting with supervision of football game days and other special events in support of Transit operations, etc.

  • Administration- Collaborates in regular meetings with management and training staff to gain information on making improvements to routes, the training program, etc.  Monitors state and federal agencies for compliance related to commercial driver’s license testing, training, etc.  Responsible for the administration of federally mandated preemployment and random drug screenings.
