We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Product Owner to join our Platform Engineering Squad. The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of trading platforms—both technically and functionally, preferably Murex—and possess a clear understanding of asset classes, valuation, risk, and integration touch points. This role requires excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to articulate business requirements into technical priorities.
Workplace Attendance: While the bank has a 50% work-from-home policy, the expectation for this role is to be in the office 5 days a week.
Specifically you will:
- Lead the Platform Engineering Squad in delivering strategic roadmaps while managing other responsibilities
- Work with stakeholders across various areas, including Technology, to co-create priorities for the Platform Engineering Squad
- Manage the backlog, prioritise tasks, and lead refinements to ensure timely delivery of features and enhancements
- Support the Crew Lead to ensure overall crew objectives and business OKRs are met
- Identify risk, dependencies, and issues for the squad in line with excellent management of operational risk and compliance outcomes
- Stay abreast of external market trends, including regulatory, economics, and innovation
- Work with other Product Owners to bring in common standards and implement best practices across the squads
- Act as the voice of the customer and business, translating needs into actionable priorities for the squad
- Drive product exploration using design thinking, analytics, and hypothesis-driven validation
- Lead the delivery of strategic initiatives such as platform upgrades, data platform integration, API endpoints, and AI-assisted tooling
- Lead and coordinate delivery across platform technology squads.
- Support the Crew Lead in governance forums, quarterly planning (BRP, QBR), and delivery reporting
- Maintain a healthy and prioritised backlog to deliver business and customer outcomes
- Manage squad performance against defined objectives, including OKR tracking and agile maturity metrics (e.g., sprint burndown, release burn-up, team health)
- Collaborate with Technology, Risk, Operations, and Business stakeholders to co-create and align priorities
- Ensure prioritisation is understood and agreed upon across senior business and technical stakeholders
- Deliver operational risk and issue management for a defined set of controls and execution risks
- Ensure all obligations across customer, regulatory, internal policy, and process frameworks are fully met
- Identify, articulate, and manage risks, dependencies, and compliance across streams of work
- Contribute to best practices and uplift the Product Owner community within CBA
- Determine and coordinate change request and delivery framework-related administrative tasks with the squad and crew
Some of the key product owner experience we are after are as follows:
- Previous experience as a Product Owner in the institutional banking or global markets domain
- Previous experience in prioritisation, managing backlogs, and leading refinements
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and should have managed multiple stakeholders at once
- Proficient in articulating business requirements into technical priorities.
- Experience with trading platforms, preferably Murex, in a cloud setup, and understanding of upstream and downstream integration endpoints
- Good understanding of various asset classes, their valuation, risk, and the trade lifecycle
- Knowledge of various market data and how market data systems integrate with trading platforms
- Understanding of APIs, web services, microservices, enterprise architecture, and experience in modernising legacy platforms
- Good understanding of cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, including optimisation for performance and cost
- Ability to lead work to deliver on strategic roadmaps while juggling other priorities
- An eye for cost and process optimisation through presenting various options and their costs and benefits
- Awareness of CI/CD pipelines and enabling self-service features
- Experience in building strategic roadmaps is desirable
- Adept at collaborating across multiple teams, domains, and time zones
- Business mindset to combine technology to drive business outcomes
Preferred qualifications:
- Tertiary education in Finance, Mathematics, or Computer Science
- Previous certification as Product Owner
- Previous experience in investment banking
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong understanding of technology
