What you will do
We are seeking a dedicated Competitive Intelligence Manager to establish and lead a structured approach to competitive analysis within Johnson Controls’ Building Automation Systems (BAS) & Controls organization. This role will transform competitive intelligence from an ad-hoc activity into a core capability, enabling product managers and leadership to make informed, strategic decisions. The position combines qualitative market insights and quantitative product benchmarking to ensure our offerings are clearly differentiated and positioned for success.
How you will do it
Competitive Intelligence Program Development: Build and implement a playbook for competitive analysis, establishing standards and processes that become part of the PM organization’s SOPs.
Qualitative Analysis: Monitor industry news, competitor strategies, and market trends to identify emerging threats and opportunities. Maintain a comprehensive view of competitor positioning and strategic moves.
Quantitative Benchmarking: Conduct time-based studies comparing JCI products against competitor systems, focusing on feature differentiation and performance metrics. Provide actionable insights to validate product roadmaps and feature prioritization.
Reporting & Communication: Deliver regular intelligence reports and dashboards to product management and leadership teams. Present findings in clear, compelling formats that inform strategic planning and go-to-market decisions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers, marketing, and sales to integrate competitive insights into product development and commercial strategies.
What we look for
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or related field.
5+ years in competitive intelligence, market research, or product strategy roles; experience in building automation or related industries preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights.
Proficiency in competitive intelligence tools, data visualization platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent communication and presentation skills for senior stakeholders.
Preferred:
Experience creating competitive intelligence frameworks or playbooks.
MBA or Advanced degree.
Familiarity with benchmarking methodologies and quantitative analysis techniques.
Ability to work independently and drive initiatives in a matrixed organization.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $112,000 - $150,000. Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group, and corporate performance. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
