Lumentum is seeking a Product Development Engineer responsible for driving variant development of complex optical switch modules from end-to-end. This role combines strong technical expertise and project management skills to integrate new designs and ensure manufacturing readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) processes, including process design and product design reviews.

  • Troubleshoot product and yield issues; coordinate with cross-functional teams across multiple locations to identify and implement effective solutions addressing production, yield, cost, and quality challenges.

  • Manage Bill of Materials (BOM) and collaborate with supply chain teams and suppliers to ensure timely development and readiness of custom parts and assemblies.

  • Optimize manufacturing process flow; lead DFM, PFMEA, and develop or maintain detailed work instructions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or a related Science field.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively under pressure.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a matrix organization, both locally and internationally.

  • Strong data analysis capability – familiarity with databases, statistical analysis tools, and process control systems.

  • Knowledge of assembly and test processes, equipment capabilities, reliability principles, and materials science

  • Experience working in NPI development is a plus

  • Experience in telecommunication products such as fiber optic line cards, optical modules, and components considered an asset.
