Cleveland Clinic provides evidence-based clinical care to some of the most critically ill patients in the United States. Caring for adult, pediatric and/or neonatal patient populations, Respiratory Therapy caregivers evaluate, treat and care for patients with a wide range of lung diseases and respiratory disorders, such as asthma, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, COPD and lung cancer.  

A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) variable shifts.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Perform respiratory therapy assessment with the guidance of a Registered Respiratory Therapist. 
  • Provide basic respiratory therapy modalities to both adult and pediatric patients. 
  • Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate. 
  • Attend in-service education lectures, programs, seminars and other educational opportunities. 
  • Complete six months of on-the-job training to become familiar with equipment, develop the ability to perform independently and learn additional responsibilities specific to the institution.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Active enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program or on-the-job trainee prior to 1986  
  • After selection and placement into the position, six months of on-the-job training to become familiar with equipment, develop the ability to perform independently and learn additional responsibilities specific to the institution.
  • Current temporary limited permit to practice respiratory care (RCLP-L1) in the State of Ohio  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Prior experience in critical care and/or neonatal/pediatrics 
  • Prior experience performing invasive procedures

Physical Requirements:

  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.
  • May require sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
