Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Principal/ Quality Engineer Level 2 or Level 3 to join our team in Chandler, AZ.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting integration and test activities for mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical assemblies used in various space launch vehicles. Specific duties may include: supporting development of processes and procedures for the assembly and test of mechanical/electronic assemblies; reviewing and approving drawings; documenting and dispositioning hardware discrepancies and pursuing root cause and corrective actions; supporting required MRB processing; perform inspection of components and assemblies; supporting manufacturing activities with supervisors, program engineers and various customer organizations; reviewing design changes on WIP or completed assemblies; analyzing data for trends and recommending changes to improve process and product quality, interfacing with suppliers for auditing and corrective action/continuous improvement related to component assemblies and parts.

In this job, you will:

  • Develop, modify, apply, and maintain quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.

  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.

  • Devise and implement methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.

  • Design and analyze inspection and testing processes, mechanisms, and equipment; conducting quality assurance tests; and performing statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.

  • Audit quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.

  • Ensure that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards, and that documentation is compliant with requirements.

  • May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.

  • May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.

This is a dual level req, which can be filled as a Quality Engineer (level 2) OR Principal Quality Engineer (level 3)

Basic Qualifications for Level 2:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 0 years of professional experience.   

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance

  • Ideal candidate shall possess related work experience working with mechanical/electrical assemblies, pneumatic systems, structures, and/or tooling. 

  • Work related experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Proficient at planning /organization, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience – OR – PhD with 1 year of professional experience.   

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance

  • Ideal candidate shall possess related work experience working with mechanical/electrical assemblies, pneumatic systems, structures, and/or tooling. 

  • Work related experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Proficient at planning /organization, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

 Preferred Qualifications for Both Levels:  

  • A demonstrated ability to work with minimal oversight and in a multi-discipline team environment, providing insight and solutions to complicated issues both technical and procedural.

  • Discrepancy Reporting and MRB experience is highly desirable.

  • Extensive Root Cause and Problem-Solving experience.

  • Experience with quality tools and methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, FMEA, SPC).

  • Experience with quality management systems (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).

  • System integration and range safety experience.

  • Experience working with TipQa, MES, and CostPoint software.

Primary Level Salary Range: $70,200.00 - $105,400.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $86,600.00 - $130,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
