Agile Space Industries is seeking a Principal Project Engineer who will provide strategic technical vision to project teams onsite in Durango, CO.  This role involves defining technical decision-making approaches and leading innovative project execution for hypergolic in-space propulsion systems, engines, and system components. The ideal candidate for this role will have profound technical and strategic impact necessary to guide critical methods on active programs and across the company.  The Principal Project Engineer will drive program execution through technical leadership while working as a trusted advisor to leadership. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead interdisciplinary project teams to develop and build hypergolic in-space propulsion system and components.
  • Manage strategic technical relationships with customers and clients.
  • Drive enterprise-level innovative methods to ensure the long-term technical health and vision of product development.
  • Define technical product development work packages and review work products from the team.
  • Outline technical logic plans to lead teams through the hardware development lifecycle.
  • Provide strategic co-leadership with program management for team organization, resource demands, and project execution.
  • Support design execution activities, test planning, risk and opportunity management, and issue resolution.
  • Establish methods and standards for technical documentation and content for major gate reviews and contract-deliverable data items.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. or advanced degree in related engineering or technical field
  • 20+ Years of experience with product development, demonstrating strategic and technical impact.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering hardware architectural solutions and setting company-wide technical execution methods.
  • Proven ability to act as an organization innovator, solving critical business problems with practical judgement.
  • Proven experience with mitigating complex technical risks and navigating dynamic issues to successful resolution.
  • Experience developing technical work plans, including estimation of required resources.
  • Experienced advising leadership and guiding technical decisions across the company.
  • Proactive and detail-oriented mindset.

 Preferred Skills:

  • Background in managing complex technical baselines and product configurations with demanding clients.
  • Significant experience developing and managing technical teams through technical gate reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.).
  • Experience developing multiple complex, large-scale integrated systems
  • Experience developing and managing contract deliverable documentation to space customers
  • Experience developing and working with chemical propulsion systems.
  • Experience working with or around toxic / hazardous propellants.
  • Hands-on experience with rocket propulsion systems.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Employment Type: Exempt

Salary: $152,000-$235,000 Final compensation will be based on factors such as experience, skills, and internal equity, and is typically made within the midrange, rather than the upper end. 

Work Schedule: Full Time

Travel Requirements: <25%

Location: Onsite - Durango, CO
