Principal Learning Designer (Assessment Transformation)

About This Opportunity 

We’re seeking an innovative and collaborative Principal Learning Designer (Assessment Transformation) to help shape the future of digital assessment across the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.
 

In this role, you’ll partner with academic staff to design, develop and implement inclusive, secure, and future-ready assessment strategies that enhance student learning outcomes and align with UQ’s commitment to teaching excellence. Reporting to the Manager, HASS Learning Design Team and working closely with the Strategic Lead – Assessment Transformation (ITaLI), you’ll play a vital part in the University’s broader assessment transformation initiative.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Partner with the Strategic Lead – Assessment Transformation (ITaLI) and faculty stakeholders to align priorities and success measures.

  • Develop assessment strategies informed by Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and programmatic assessment principles.

  • Support academic staff to design and evaluate innovative digital assessment and feedback strategies.

  • Promote best practice in feedback, integrity, and technology-enhanced assessment design.

  • Share emerging sector knowledge on assessment and AI through communities of practice.

  • Lead internal learning design projects, coordinating resources and ensuring deliverables meet agreed objectives.

About You 

  • Relevant degree with four (4) years of subsequent experience, or an equivalent mix of education and training.

  • Strong understanding of educational technology and assessment design, particularly in the context of AI.

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on assessment security and integrity.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a client-focused approach.

  • Adaptable, iterative, and able to work effectively both independently and in teams.

  • Experience with the Inspera digital assessment platform is desirable.

The successful candidate may be required to complete pre-employment checks including right to work, criminal history, and education verification.
