Introduction: A Career at HARMAN Automotive

We’re a global, multi-disciplinary team that’s putting the innovative power of technology to work and transforming tomorrow. At HARMAN Automotive, we give you the keys to fast-track your career.

  • Engineer audio systems and integrated technology platforms that augment the driving experience
  • Combine ingenuity, in-depth research, and a spirit of collaboration with design and engineering excellence
  • Advance in-vehicle infotainment, safety, efficiency, and enjoyment.

About the Role

This position is part of HARMAN Automotive’s Ready Care R&D organization, focused on delivering production‑ready in‑cabin radar features (such as child presence detection and occupant classification) that enhance safety and well‑being for drivers and passengers. You will drive the end‑to‑end radar feature lifecycle—from roadmap and requirements through algorithms, KPIs, verification/validation, and series deployment—working closely with cross‑functional teams including radar hardware (antenna, RF), platform/base software, and product management. The Ready Care team’s mission is to pioneer in‑cabin sensing solutions that monitor eyes, mind, and vitals for improved mobility experiences.

What You Will Do

  • Own the product roadmap, technical requirements, and feature KPIs for assigned in‑cabin radar features; translate customer requirements, regulatory targets, and NCAP‑style goals into measurable specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Drive the development of radar algorithms (e.g., range–Doppler/angle processing, CFAR, clustering/tracking, detection, classification) to meet detection, false‑alarm, and latency targets; review and guide implementation quality in C++/Python/MATLAB.
  • Align cross‑functionally with radar hardware (antenna, RF), platform/base software, and product teams to ensure robust feature delivery and integration.
  • Industrialize the feature with platform and validation teams: define HIL/SIL test coverage, regression suites, and on‑target profiling; support series integration and change control.
  • Quantitatively analyze performance versus radar sensor specifications, placement, and cabin materials; drive design‑of‑experiments to de‑risk edge cases and improve robustness over time.
  • Champion quality and safety practices aligned with automotive development (requirements traceability, issue triage, release readiness), collaborating with program management and customers.

What You Need to Be Successful

  • Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics/Computer Engineering (or related) and 8–12+ years in radar signal processing, perception, or embedded sensing systems
  • Strong background in C/C++-based production software development and proficiency in MATLAB / Python
  • Deep understanding of FMCW MIMO radar fundamentals (beamforming/DOA, range–Doppler processing, calibration, clutter and multi‑path mitigation) and real‑time constraints.
  • Demonstrated experience taking a feature from concept to series: requirements, algorithm prototyping, KPIs, validation on vehicles, and productization on embedded targets.
  • Comfort working across lab & vehicle environments, with structured test planning, data logging, and statistical analysis of results.

Bonus Points if You Have

  • Experience with machine learning/AI for radar feature development and optimization.
  • Familiarity and experience with ASPICE and automotive compliance/assessment landscapes relevant to in‑cabin features.
  • Hands‑on with embedded platforms (e.g., Qualcomm, NVIDIA, ARM Linux); exposure to CI/CD for algorithm evaluation and release.
  • Experience with dataset curation/annotation, synthetic data, and robustness testing under corner cases.

What Makes You Eligible

  • Be willing to work in Harman office, India (hybrid).
  • Be willing to travel 5%
  • Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment

What We Offer

  • Flexible work environment, allowing for full-time remote work globally for positions that can be performed outside a HARMAN or customer location
  • Access to employee discounts on world-class Harman and Samsung products (JBL, HARMAN Kardon, AKG, etc.)
  • Extensive training opportunities through our own HARMAN University
  • Competitive wellness benefits
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • “Be Brilliant” employee recognition and rewards program
  • An inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages professional and personal development
