ABOUT THE JOB

We are seeking motivated Principal Data Scientist who are passionate in leading advanced analytics initiatives that transform how NAB evaluates and accelerates engineering delivery and operational excellence with modelling capability requirements and identifying workforce opportunities to support NAB’s delivery and simplification agenda.

This role is critical for NAB to move beyond traditional operational reporting toward richer analytics—introducing trend evaluation, scenario modelling, and predictive insights that inform strategic decision-making and uplift delivery maturity across the enterprise.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and deploy machine learning and advanced analytics solutions to improve engineering delivery excellence and operational efficiency
• Translate business and engineering challenges into analytical frameworks and actionable insights.
• Champion the use of data science to inform strategic decisions across engineering and delivery domains.
• Utilization of new or improved data sources to improve Engineering delivery excellence and deliver on business outcomes.
• Presentation of results to business stakeholders.
• Leadership of direct reports

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• 8+ years in a pure analytical/science role and 3+ years of management experience
• Strong proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and cloud-based data platforms (Databrick preferred), version control using Git
• Proven experience in leading data science projects within engineering or operational domains.
• Familiarity with software delivery metrics (DORA, FLOW), DevOps practices, and agile methodologies is a plus.
• Experience working with large, heterogeneous datasets and communicating insights to non-technical stakeholders
• Analytical skills and theoretical knowledge of machine learning and statistics.
• Data science using Python.
• Analyzing and manipulating complex, high volume data using SQL, Spark (Databrick) and/or Python
• Ability to act quickly to identify and resolve potential blockers and issues in the data delivery space to ensure speed to outcome
• Communicating technical concepts and insights to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Working independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualification Requirements

• MSc/PhD in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields
• 8+ years in a pure analytical/science role and 3+ years of management experience
