Position Summary

Lead the development of effective strategies for the optimization of Xcel Energy's electric and gas assets. Analyzes, models, develops, and presents operational opportunities and financial perspectives for Xcel Energy's electric and gas assets to create value for our customers and shareholders.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Create, execute, and lead strategic and economic analyses that generate recommendations on investment, operational and market strategy, and strategic growth for the regional portfolios. Develop strategy and asset analysis that supports Xcel Energy's long-term planning and is aligned with company, regulatory, and public policy goals. Provide analyses and strategies that identify opportunities to increase revenue streams, create new revenue streams, deliver cost reduction strategies, or mitigate risks for Xcel Energy’s assets. Develop asset life-cycle analyses as well as new/emerging technology analytics. Work in cross-functional teams to integrate innovation into the regional portfolio of assets. Leverage asset economic models to determine the Company value of plant investments for operation’s businesses (Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Gas, Chilled Water, Thermal, etc.)

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to Operations, Regulatory, and Xcel Energy executive leadership on financial and operational characteristics of Xcel Energy’s assets and strategies. Interface with Operations, Commercial Operations, Resource Planning, Finance, Corporate Development, Regulatory, and others to quantify the risk profile and identify strategies to increase the value of the electric and gas portfolio. Provide industry perspective and make recommendations which impact the strategic direction taken with the capital investment portfolio.

  • Provide project management support for strategic initiatives related to the Xcel Energy asset portfolio, providing financial and operational impacts to the equipment, fleet and Company basis. Develop and provide discovery responses and/or written testimony in support of regulatory proceedings.

  • Support various cost modeling tools by providing accurate asset data and analysis for utilization in modeling tools to ensure electric and gas assets are correctly evaluated and represented in Company-wide analysis. Drive change through continuously improving production cost modeling and asset market offers.

  • Mentor and guide Sr. Asset Analyst(s). Serve as a resource for various organizations in the areas of modeling, decision analysis, regulatory issues, industry acumen, and system knowledge. Is responsible for the most difficult analytical assignments.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, mathematics, economics, or accounting. Engineering or technical degree acceptable with advanced degree in finance or related field.

  • 8 years of financial modeling experience in a utility or similar industry.

  • Strong business/financial acumen paired with an ability to communicate complex concepts in succinct, clear manner in written formats and presentations.

  • Detail-oriented, self-starter with the ability to work independently and in groups.

  • Must effectively manage workload to meet deadlines.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $109,500.00 to $155,500.00 per year
