Take your career to the next step as a Manufacturing Engineering Section Manager.  The Section Manager will report to the Operations Execution (XOPs) Engineering Department Manager and will closely collaborate with Operations in support of precision metal fabrication including 3,4, and 5-axis machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding and painting.  This is an onsite role located in Andover, MA.

What You Will Do

  • The Section Manager will be directly responsible for managing a functional team of engineers.

  • Work includes prioritizing tasks to meet the customer’s needs, coordinating resources, managing team staffing levels and interfacing with strategic make center personnel and leaders.

  • The Section Manager will be responsible for training, coaching, mentoring, employee performance development and ensuring each engineer is performing to the standards set by the Factory and Manufacturing Engineering.  

  • The Section Manager is responsible for the technical quality of engineering tasks, product compliance and providing critical oversight to his/her team of engineers including staffing and approval of timecards.

  • This Section Manager will possess skills necessary to develop sustaining solutions to routine technical problems, troubleshoot manufacturing systems and lead root cause and corrective action.

  • The Section Manager will be asked to participate in or lead functional or factory improvement projects. 

  • The ideal candidate will possess the demonstrated skills and experience necessary to perform as a technical engineering leader with a strong understanding of the manufacturing processes and products.

  • The candidate will possess a passion for functional leadership and be able to demonstrate a high level of maturity and emotional intelligence.

  • This position requires direct support of manufacturing activities and spending a large amount of time directly on the factory floor in support of a highly demanding dynamic environment. 

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically Requires a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and minimum 10 years of relevant experience. 

  • 5+ years experience working in metal fabrication

  • 2+ years experience leading people/teams 

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance  

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Advanced knowledge of high-speed machining techniques, cutting tool technology, macro programming, and machine tool capabilities

  • Ability to properly apply and interpret standard and geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)

  • Experience with PFMEA, SPC, shop floor process monitoring, and data analysis

  • Experience with lean principles in a manufacturing environment 

  • Preferred majors: Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering Technology 

  • Current DOD Secret Security Clearance 

  • Experience applying technical principles in the manufacturing life cycle 

  • Experience with Quality Systems and their application 

  • Strong engineering aptitude and analytical skills 

  • Technical problem solving 

  • Earned Value Systems Budget Management 

  • Shop Floor Management

  • Experience with MRP systems (ex. SAP) 

  • Experience with proposal development 

  • Experience with Estimates at Complete (EAC) development and management 

  • Skilled in risk identification and risk management 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 

  • Verbal and Written technical communication 

  • Customer and company oriented and driven to meet or exceed expectations 

  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude to serve as an example to the team and colleagues 

  • Self-starter and able to manage personal and team workload

The salary range for this role is 124,000 USD - 250,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
