The Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible for conducting research into their field of expertise. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will utilize the skills and expertise granted to them by their education and experience to complete research projects in their field of expertise. Writes and may contribute to research papers, articles, and publications. Assists with the preparation and cleaning of worksite. May collaborate with other researchers and/or faculty.

Required education and experience
Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Neuroscience, or related degree area.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in BL2 laboratories
Ability to work in the vivarium performing experiments on rats and mice.
Preferred qualifications
Experience in the following
Single-cell and single-nuclei RNA sequencing studies and the associated bioinformatics analysis
Proteomic studies and data analysis
LCMS and RNAi studies
Gut Microbiome analysis to understand Gut-Brain Signaling
Performing brain tissue analysis involving immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining, confocal microscopy, ELISA, WB, and qPCR studies.
Performing mouse and rat neurobehavioral tests
Measuring therapeutic effects of intranasal extracellular vesicle treatment in animal models of disease using various neurobehavioral tests
Performing brain tissue analysis involving immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining, confocal microscopy, ELISA, WB, and qPCR studies.
Preparing cultures of pluripotent stem cells, neural stem cells, various neural cells (neurons, astrocytes, oligodendrocytes)
Isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles from culture media and plasma using size-exclusion chromatographic methods, in vitro assays, RNAi studies.
Culturing of brain organoids
Strong background in bioinformatics
Responsibilities
Research:
Under general supervision, is responsible for conducting research into their field of expertise.
Stem Cell and neural cell culturing;
Isolation and engineering of extracellular vesicles;
Single-cell and single-nuclei RNA sequencing studies and the associated bioinformatics analysis;
Proteomic studies and data analysis;
Gut Microbiome analysis;
Perform mouse and rat neurobehavioral tests
Measure therapeutic effects of intranasal extracellular vesicle treatment in animal models of disease using brain tissue analysis;
These will involve immunohistochemical, immunofluorescence, ELISA, WB, and qPCR studies on brain tissue samples to measure the expression of various proteins, mRNAs, and miRNAs.
Prepare cultures of neurons and glia, perform immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining of brain tissue sections from harvested rat and mouse brains, and perform confocal microscopy.
Data Analysis
Bioinformatics. Analyze and interpret sc-RNA and single nuclei RNAseq, proteomics and gut microbiome data with appropriate statistical analysis, prepare data and figures and write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Prepare manuscripts for publication.
Assist in preparing research proposals and progress reports.
Mentorship
Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in their research.
