Planning Manager, Venue Technology

Venue Technology (VTS) is responsible for the integration and planning of technology services across all Olympic and Paralympic Games venues, as well as the delivery of audio-visual (AV) equipment and services. Additionally, Venue Technology leads the Technology Equipment Allocation Process (TEAP), which ensures demand from other Functional Areas (FA) across the Organizing Committee (OC) is planned and managed to align with needs and budget.  

Venue Technology comprises of a Central Team as well as Venue Technology Managers (VTM) assigned to each Games venue. As a member of the Central Team, this role will support Program Management and monitoring across the different phases of the program lifecycle. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the program management and reporting function for VTS, interfacing with other key FA’s including Venues and Infrastructure, Planning and Programs, Energy and Logistics. 
  • Manage, and execute regular internal departmental communications, and create and distribute periodic venue technology updates. 
  • Assist in managing and updating the Venue Technology Implementation Plan. 
  • Proactively monitor departmental workflows to ensure that teams remain on task and projects are delivered on schedule across multiple concurrent workstreams 
  • Support Telecoms, Service Delivery, Results and Cyber Security teams to ensure requirements are accurately translated into actionable implementation plans. 
  • Oversee day-to-day VTS administrative operations ensuring compliance and timely documentation creation, completion or submission.  
  • Provide administrative and operational support across VTS functions, including change control, internal communications, mobilization, and logistics. 
  • Undertake additional tasks as they become required due to the unpredictable nature of event delivery.  
  • Manage a small team of direct reports to deliver support to the wider VTS team. 

Background & Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in technology project management, or 3 years of program management, ideally within live events, venue operations, or large-scale infrastructure environments.
  • Proven ability to manage tasks and timelines with precision, delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and persuade colleagues to ensure delivery of milestones or reporting deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills; known for staying on task and maintaining structured workflows across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Smartsheet is essential. Skills in using Tableau or similar tools will be considered a plus.  
  • Possesses an obsessive attention to detail and a relentless drive for perfection, an ability to juggle multiple complex tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy.   
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate procedural information into clear, concise, and actionable language for diverse audiences (technical teams, vendors, and non-technical stakeholders).

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Majority of the work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment. However, the role may also require visits to event venues, involving physical inspections and assessment of the venue environment. Site visits may require navigating varying environmental conditions in external locations.  
  • The role will require flexibility in your work schedule, as hours may vary and include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods. You must be comfortable managing tight deadlines and multiple tasks simultaneously. The initial work will take place in the Downtown Los Angeles office, this will change to meet event demands as we approach the Games. Local, and domestic travel may be required. 
  • Ability to remain seated, stand, or walk for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read screens, documents, and other written materials. Hearing ability to participate effectively in conversations and respond to instructions or alerts.Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail during extended periods of analysis and strategic planning. 
  • Problem solving and collaborating in a fast paced, dynamic environment alongside colleagues from local and international backgrounds, bringing a diverse range of perspectives and experiences.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technology Management or relevant experience. 
  • Smartsheet Project Management Certification a plus. 

The annual base salary range for this position is $88,000.00 - $115,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
