VA Northern Indiana Healthcare System has an immediate career opportunity available. We are currently seeking a Gynecologist to support our Women's Health Program.

The specific duties of the position will be determined by the Gynecologist's Scope of Practice and will be discussed at the time of interview. The Physician - Gynecologist will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties: The Gynecologist assures the provision of high quality and safe patient care both in and outside the operating room. Clinical assessment of management of patients in Gynecology Clinics and Emergency room Performs Gynecology procedures in the outpatient clinic and inpatient surgery procedures based on standard complexity facility Initial evaluation and overall workup. H&P, and admission of GYN surgery patients Informs Veterans to the risks as well as benefits of upcoming surgical procedures Enters notes electronically in a paperless medical record system Provision of appropriate post-operative care Management of patients in the emergency department, inpatient units, medical imaging departments, and ICU Provides occasional consultative services to other service providers for inpatients and outpatients Works effectively with patients and coworkers Treats Veterans, Veteran's family members, and other healthcare professionals with respect and dignity Supervision of Advanced Practice Nurses, Physician Assistants (mid-levels) and other staff as required Participation in peer review and quality improvement activities is required to ensure quality of patient care consistent with VA regulations and Joint Commission standards Understands and abides by the Medical Bylaws of this facility Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the Chief of Surgery Supports Women's Health Program Provides education regarding Women's Health to Primary Care Providers Hours: Mon-Friday 0800-430 pm Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of annual paid time offer per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement,12/19/2025. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, OR Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant Licensure and Registration. Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Residency Training. Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA), in the list published for the year the residency was completed, OR Other residencies or their equivalents which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. English Language Proficiency. Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Preferred Experience/Qualifications: Board Certified or Board Eligible Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.
