Job Summary: You will serve as a PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the RADIOLOGICAL MONITORING DIVISION (CODE 105.3), RADIOLOGICAL CONTROL OFFICE (CODE 105) of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major Duties:

  • You will serve as a Senior Physical Science Technician providing radiological control oversight of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
  • You will ensure proper handling and control of radioactive material, adherence to proper exposure control work practices, proper documentation of radiological surveys, and coordination and control of response to radiological situations.
  • You will identify, correct and document deficient conditions or work practices to prevent elevated radiological impact.
  • You will assist the Division with control of personnel exposure to ionizing radiation, protection against radioactive contamination and protection of the public against exposure to ionizing radiation.
  • You will provide on-the-job mentoring and training for junior radiological technicians to ensure adequate development and proficiency.
  • You will communicate assignments providing daily and project-specific direction to junior personnel, including validating readiness for work.

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Special experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience overseeing and accomplishing a broad range of complex tasks involving detailed knowledge of theoretical and practical matters related to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program including, but not limited to: health physics, applied radiological controls, abnormal situation response, and training of junior technicians on technical skills, theories, and radiological work practices. Experience providing on-scene radiological control response for actual or potential radiological emergencies, casualties, training exercises, and proficiency drills. Experience with applying physical science methods, concepts, principles and practices. Experience interpreting nuclear work processes and trade operations sufficient to plan and coordinate the development and implementation of appropriate radiological controls. Experience directing and coordinating subordinate technicians, Ship's Force, and others to ensure efficiency.
