Photonics Test and Measurement Engineer

We seek a highly skilled and experienced Photonics Test and Measurement Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will design, develop, and implement test and measurement software for photonics components, including modulators and SOA. The engineer will also analyze test code, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements. Deploying and supporting production-level test and measurement software to Asian contract manufacturers will also be part of their duties. This may include travel to Asia as required for significant test software updates.
 

How You Will Contribute:

  • Design and maintain Microsoft Visual Studio C# software to control hardware and automate analysis on R&D and production test robots and instruments.
  • Work with test instrumentation, motion control actuators for probing and micro-optical alignment, and proprietary machine vision systems.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, ensuring maintainability and providing constructive feedback.
  • Manage multiple software feature branches using Git-based version control, enabling seamless collaboration across teams.
  • Prepare test software for production release, resolving conflicts and merging feature branches.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop new software features and address bugs effectively.
  • Troubleshoot issues, analyze test algorithms for efficiency and stability, and provide technical support locally and remotely.

The Must Haves:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expertise in C# or Python programming with a focus on application development and long-term software maintainability.
  • Proficiency in Git-based code management and software versioning tools such as Bitbucket.
  • Experience in agile software development, including Kanban boards, scrum methodologies, and ticket-based systems for bug tracking and feature requests.
  • Familiarity with .NET-based user interfaces for desktop applications (Windows Forms, WPF, or UWP).
  • Skilled in automating electrical and optical test equipment, such as current/voltage source meters.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice to Haves:

  • Knowledge of SQL databases for data management and retrieval.
  • Understanding of photonics components and systems, including modulators, lasers, optical fibers, and detectors.
  • Experience deploying and supporting production-level test software to contract manufacturers, including travel to Asia for major updates.

Pay Range:

The salary range for this role is $71, 600 - $114, 400

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
