As a Specialty Pharmacy Pharmacist, you will play a vital role in delivering high-paced, accurate care to ensure an exceptional experience for patients enrolled in the Specialty Pharmacy program. This position is responsible for dispensing specialty medications and providing pharmaceutical services based on prescriber orders. The Pharmacist collaborates with healthcare professionals to evaluate medication needs, resolve prescription issues, and ensure compliance with URAC and ACHC accreditation standards.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote patient safety during prescription processing and dispensing
  • Monitor and report dispensing errors and near misses
  • Manage inventory, including temperature-sensitive and hazardous materials, in compliance with USP <800> and FDA/REMS requirements
  • Connect with patients, prescribers, and payers to resolve issues related to drug utilization, coverage, and product availability
  • Ensure patient privacy and data security
  • Resolve customer service issues in alignment with ChristianaCare core values
  • Evaluate and verify prescription accuracy
  • Maintain appropriate drug inventory turnover and par levels
  • Coordinate specialty drug handling, storage, and cold chain distribution
  • Encourage use of generics and payer-preferred medications while maintaining contract compliance
  • Review and interpret medication orders, checking for contraindications, duplications, and interactions
  • Ensure timely refills and accurate maintenance of patient medication records
  • Provide drug information and consult with healthcare professionals on therapy-related issues
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and verify the accuracy of their work
  • Coordinate resources to deliver timely, efficient pharmaceutical care
  • Recommend process improvements to pharmacy leadership
  • Assist in training pharmacy interns, residents, students, and technicians
  • Stay current on departmental safety procedures and participate in quality improvement initiatives

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (B.S.); Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred
  • Current licensure in the State of Delaware or eligibility for reciprocity
  • Prior experience in specialty pharmacy preferred

Hourly Pay Range: $52.97 - $84.75

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
