Position Summary:
The night pharmacist role helps provide high quality pharmaceutical services that foster efficacious, safe and cost effective drug use for our patients. Plays an integral role in the coordination and delivery of clinical and distributive services. Primary duties include performing clinical review and order verification, following pharmacy clinical protocols/policies, providing drug information for providers and nurses, overseeing central pharmacy activities, and supervises, monitors, and teaches Pharmacy Technicians.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor of Science or Doctorate of Pharmacy
- Montana Licensure (Pharmacist) or eligible to obtain licensure upon hire
- American Heart Association BLS required within one year of hire
- American Heart Association ACLS required within one year of hire
Preferred
- PGY1 residency or equivalent experience
Essential Job Functions:
In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements.
- Reviews patient-specific data to evaluate patient's status and medication needs and develops a therapeutic plan. Checks for accuracy of all medications/prescriptions prepared by pharmacy technicians prior to dispensing medication to patients and make appropriate corrections when required.
- Interact with physicians and nurses to provide drug and prescription information.
- Oversees inpatient pharmacy and provides functional supervision for pharmacy technicians. Monitors attendance and work quality, organizes and prioritizes resources based on workload and productivity, and directs support personnel's workflow to ensure departmental standards and time frames are met.
- Processes medication orders and monitors workflow activity to maintain timely medication services. Responds to evaluative and/or non-evaluative drug information requests.
- Evaluate and dispense medication orders, prepare IV admixtures and/or sterile admixtures, ensure drug interactions are identified and brought to the prescriber/patient's attention, and orders/prescriptions are filled accurately.
- Use pharmacy software, EPIC, electronic health record, and automated-dispensing systems to perform job duties. Responds to in-hospital alerts, including but not limited to code blue, code blue PALS, stroke alerts, RRTs and traumas.
- Assumes responsibility for the performance of job duties in the safest possible manner to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and reports good catches, preventable hazards and unsafe practices to management.
- Maintains bi-annual PATT/GFS requirements.
- Demonstrates competency in after-hours procedures for outpatient prescription filling.
- Remains competent in sterile room processes, IV admixture and hazardous medication handling and preparation.
- Maintains optimal pharmacy practice through planned and continuous growth and development.
- Identifies areas of improvement and updates for patient care based on national guidelines.
- Promotes strong interdisciplinary communication.
- Actively contributes to medication safety and quality initiatives.
- Adheres to relevant Bozeman Health policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Contributes and participates in pharmacy education among peers and for residents and students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
- Lifting, Pushing, and Pulling: Support 50 pounds of weight (patient, assist with bedside needs, etc.) Lift 50 pounds (pick up a child, transfer a patient, etc.) Carry equipment/supplies. Use upper body strength (CPR, physically restrain patient, etc.)
- Extended Hours: The role may involve working for extended periods, requiring sitting, walking, or standing for eight or more hours daily.
- Flexible Schedule: The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
- On-Call Availability: On-call work may be required to respond to organizational and patient needs promptly.
- Effective Communication: Proficient in effective communication, both in person and through various technologies.
- Handling Challenging Situations: The role may involve dealing with upset individuals, requiring the ability to de-escalate situations and work effectively with frustrated patients or families.
- Repetitive Tasks: Ability to perform repetitive tasks as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
