The Patient Transfer Coordinator optimizes and prioritizes patient flow activities throughout the System, as well as coordinates and facilitates the patients entry into MLH from other health care facilities. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating inpatient bed assignments for patients at Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare, answering calls received to the transfer center, collecting information relevant to caller's needs in a computer software interface, determining the appropriate response to the caller's need and responding and connecting the caller with the correct facility, physician and or department. A Brief Overview

What you will do

  • Coordinates bed assignments accurately and timely across MLH facilities
  • Correctly answers and greets callers to the Transfer Center and quickly determines the type of assistance needed by the caller.
  • Correctly utilizes Transfer Center patient software to capture caller demographics, reason for call, patient information, transport times, and other pertinent information.
  • Dispatches transports in accordance with Policy and Procedure.
  • Dispatches calls in a correct and efficient manner in accordance with Policy and Procedures.
  • Maintains a high degree of familiarity and demonstrates compliance with all established policies and procedures related to coordination of patient referral and transport.


Education Qualifications

  • Technical Degree or Diploma Nursing - LPN
  • Technical Degree or Diploma Paramedic
  • Associate's Degree Emerg Medical Tech (EMT)
  • Associate's Degree Nursing- RN
  • Associate's Degree Respiratory Care
  • Technical Degree or Diploma Medical Assistant

Experience Qualifications

  • 1-3 years EMT, Paramedic, RRT, LPN, RN
  • 3-5 years Minimum of three (3) of medical call center experience with a Certified Medical Assistant background

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials, such as patient records.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with all levels of associates, management, physicians, patients and their families.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment in a professional area.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary environment as a member of a team dedicated to shared patient/family responsibilities.
  • Ability to type and utilize computer systems and call center software to meet the necessary requirements.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of workflow.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of EMTALA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to multi-task in fast paced, call center environment.

Physical Demands

  • The ability to sit for long periods in a call center environment.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly to emergency situations.
