Cleveland Clinic’s G80 Internal Medicine Unit cares for internal medicine and telemetry patients, behavioral health patients, patients with nutritional insufficiencies, and patients with other medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure, diabetes, sepsis and GI bleeds. Caregivers in this unit are exposed to more than just one specialization, which fosters strong assessments skills, a wealth of clinical knowledge and continuous learning. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in pursuing a long-term career in an ICU or the ED as this unit cultivates well-rounded caregivers in a diverse, team-oriented and fast-paced environment. To support a healthy team environment, G80 holds quarterly events outside of work (bowling, baseball games, etc.) and has self-scheduling. 

 

A caregiver in this position works day/evening/night/weekend, from 3:00pm—11:30pm. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Assist with direct and indirect patient care for one to two patients, such as rooming, vital signs, weight and pulse oximetry. If assigned to a closed unit, you will observe three to four patients.  

  • Assure patient safety by ensuring that catheters, tubes or other medical equipment have not been removed or disconnected.  

  • Accompany and assist patients at all times, including transport, tests, transfers, ambulation 

  • Identify and report changes in patient status to an RN or physician.  

  • Complete all documentation and provide hand-off communication to caregivers responsible for the patient.  

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • A high school diploma or GED  

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Heartsaver level of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it within three months of hire 

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care activities, such as basic hygiene, skin care and vital signs

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
