May be exposed to infectious, contagious, or blood-borne diseases. May be exposed to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids and waste. Occasionally exposed to unpleasant patient and or smells.
1. Cleans, restock, and prepare the rooms before and after procedures.
2. Transports patients and assists with preparing patients for operative procedures.
3. Delivers STAT patient specimens to appropriate areas; obtains blood and blood products from blood bank
4. Retrieves anesthesia records supplies and equipment if needed.
5. Communicate with the charge nurse throughout the day.
6. Directs family and patient questions to physician, anesthesiologists, or nursing staff.
7. Obtain equipment for procedures when necessary.
8. Promptly reports problems/issues to the nurse in charge.
9. Communicate with the nurse that you are assigned to.
10. Performs other miscellaneous duties as required.
Physical requirements are primarily related to the essential functions of any job. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk and hear. Must be able to lift or exert energy up to 10 pounds 75% of the time, 25 pounds up to 25% of the time. Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
Mental Requirements:
Possesses the ability to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical or technical procedures or regulations; write reports, correspondence and/or manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees and medical staff.
This position primarily interacts with adults and aging adults, with occasional interaction with pediatric patients. All staff members must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related need of the persons in the assigned work area.
Additional Job Description
High school diploma or GED and six months experience in a health care setting preferred. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required and must be maintained.
