How you will make an impact

The Director, Intellectual Property - Patent Agent/Attorney will be responsible for patent preparation and prosecution while protecting and advancing Halozyme’s innovative life sciences portfolio.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the biotechnology and life sciences fields.

  • Develop and execute global patent strategies aligned with business objectives.

  • Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and landscape analyses.

  • Collaborate with R&D teams to identify and protect intellectual property.

  • Manage relationships with outside counsel and coordinate international filings.

  • Provide IP guidance to internal stakeholders on product development and regulatory strategies.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related life sciences discipline is required; Advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D.) in Biology or related field is strongly preferred. Along with Advanced degree, minimum 8 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution, with a focus on biotechnology or life sciences (An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered)

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • For attorneys: J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one state bar.

  • Deep understanding of U.S. and international patent laws and procedures.

  • Experience with biologics, gene therapy, or molecular biology technologies preferred.

  • Familiarity with IP issues in the pharmaceutical and regulatory frameworks preferred.

The most likely base pay range for this position is $180K - $252K per year. Several factors, such as experience, tenure, skills, and particular business needs, will determine an individual’s exact level of compensation. Base salary is only one element of employee compensation at Halozyme. Total compensation could include bonuses, sales incentives, and equity awards.
