Job Description:

Aims Community College actively supports an environment that embraces the College's Mission, Vision, Values and a culture of innovation and care. The College embraces and seeks to hire individuals who want to be a part of this environment and have the skill sets necessary to be successful in this position.

The Assistant Instructor position within the Welding Technology department is a non-credentialed, hourly compensated position whose primary role is to assist a Full-time or Adjunct faculty (also known as the Instructor of Record) with instructional tasks during any class period and help maintain appropriate student to instructor ratios.

Assistant Instructors report to and are supervised by the Department Chair, but operate in accordance with and execute the daily classroom instructional plan as set by the Instructor of Record for any given day. Assistant Instructors are primarily responsible for assisting students with tertiary and some secondary level instructional tasks during their assigned class periods. Assistant Instructors refer advising and registration questions, primary instructional tasks (Initial course demonstrations and lectures, lectures of theory, etc.) and student or safety issues to the primary instructor. Assistant Instructors are not the Instructor of Record and leave responsibility for overall classroom management to the Instructor of Record for the class session.

There is limited to zero expectation for student contact outside of the assigned class periods, but some grading tasks may be assigned outside of class. Assistant Instructor positions are renewed on a semester by semester basis and are considered temporary positions, though all efforts are made to retain instructors for as long as possible.

Occasional travel may be required.
