ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Director - Legal and Enterprise Risk / Corporate Services, you will provide high-quality legal and administrative support to the Legal Team, assisting with the delivery of a wide range of legal services across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the preparation, negotiation, review, and execution of a variety of commercial contracts (including property, IT, research, and collaboration agreements).
- Supporting the management of coronial, medical negligence, public liability, and insurance matters.
- Drafting medico-legal documents, including claim forms, notifications, witness statements, and briefs to counsel.
- Undertaking legal research on medico-legal, corporate, commercial issues including relevant legislative/ regulatory changes.
- Liaising with internal stakeholders and external parties to progress projects and ensure timely document approvals.
- Assisting with policy administration, project coordination, tender submissions, and compliance activities.
- Assisting with providing insurance related advice and lodging insurance claims with support from SVHM’s insurer.
- Undertaking land-title searches, obtaining ASIC extracts, and conducting other due diligence searches as required.
- Managing the Legal Team inbox and filing systems, ensuring accurate record keeping and confidentiality.

ABOUT YOU
You are an organised, motivated, and detail-oriented individual with a passion for supporting legal functions in a dynamic healthcare setting.
You will bring:
- A qualification in Law (completed or currently studying)
- Strongly preferred: Prior experience in a legal office or legal environment
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines
- High attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Sound knowledge of confidentiality and privacy obligations
- Competence with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- A current (or willingness to obtain) National Police Check

3.LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Paralegal role works as part of a small high performing Legal team responsible for the provision of expert legal advice including the delivery of a full range of legal services to all areas of SVHM. The Legal Team assists SVHM by identifying legal issues, managing risk and providing practical assistance and advice in a timely and accurate manner. The role is three days a week and hybrid with two days in the office and one day working from home, with flexibility to choose your working days.
4.POSITION PURPOSE
To provide ancillary legal support to the Legal team and Director Legal and Enterprise Risk / Corporate Services.
5.POSITION DUTIES
- Assist with the preparation, negotiation, review, submission and execution of a range of commercial contracts including but not limited to property leases/ licences, equipment supply and service agreements, funding and research agreements, collaboration agreements, MOU’s, IT agreements and confidentiality agreements.
- Assist with the coordination and management of police & coronial, medical negligence, and public liability matters.
- Draft medico-legal documents including claim forms, notifications, legal statements and briefs to counsel.
- Liaise with Executives and external parties to progress projects and arrange approval of documents.
- Undertake legal research on medico-legal, corporate/commercial legal matters, and legislative/regulatory changes.
- Assist with the ongoing management of projects, developments, tender submissions and administration of policy related inquiries.
- Assist with providing insurance related advice and lodging insurance claims with support from SVHM’s insurer.
- Undertake land-title searches, obtain ASIC extracts, and conduct other due diligence searches as required.
- Monitor and support the management of shared Legal team inboxes and voicemail.
- Maintain an effective and secure filing system (electronic and hard copy), contract management system and manage the archiving and retrieval of legal files as required.
