GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to perform semi-skilled and skilled work in painting and related projects, including preparation, application, and finishing of various surfaces. The position also assists with general carpentry, minor building construction, and renovation tasks as assigned. Work is performed in accordance with established procedures and quality standards; however, the employee exercises judgment in determining the appropriate methods, materials, and timing for completing tasks. Work is reviewed regularly by the Maintenance Supervisor for quality, efficiency, and compliance with project requirements.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.  Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Prepares surfaces for painting by applying joint compound, sanding, and priming as required. Paints building interiors and exteriors and removes and reapplies wallpaper as needed.

Resurfaces, stains, and finishes furnishings, cabinets, doors, trim, and other woodwork.

Pressure-washes building exteriors, walkways, and other surfaces in preparation for painting or maintenance.

Lays out, cleans, and paints parking spaces, curbs, and directional markings.

Assists with general construction and carpentry tasks, including finish trim work, installation of ceiling materials, baseboards, and related duties.

Picks up and transports materials and supplies from vendors or storage locations as directed.

Maintains assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles in safe and proper working condition.

Maintains accurate records of maintenance, repair, and painting work performed by entering data into the department’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Performs all work in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, codes, regulations, and standards of safety and quality, ensuring timely completion of assigned tasks.

Participates in training sessions, workshops, and meetings to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.

INVOLVEMENT WITH THINGS:

Requires leading, operating or repairing complex machinery or equipment that requires extended training and experience, such as painting and shop equipment; may involve installation and testing.  Involves operations of limited scope.

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:

Requires high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Requires over one year and up to and including two years.

PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS:

Requires medium-to-heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, reaching, pushing or raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Requires climbing and working from ladders and scaffolds.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS:

The job may risk exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise levels, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, moving machinery, electrical shock, heights, toxic/caustic chemicals.

SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

The job requires normal visual acuity, depth perception, and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities, texture and color perception.

Compensation Minimum: $18.74
