Job Description

Administrative Faculty, Non Tenure Track, Benefits Eligible.

Position Overview

The Outreach and Instruction Librarian plays a key role in supporting student success by designing and delivering information literacy instruction, collaborating with teaching faculty, and leading outreach that promotes library services across campus. This position also plans and leads instructional sessions, develops online learning materials, strengthens partnerships with academic faculty, and fosters a culture of innovation, inclusion, and inquiry-driven learning.  The librarian supports the college mission by providing research/reference assistance, developing innovative solutions for evolving student needs, contributing to the overall delivery of library services, and advancing achievement and 21st century skills.

Job Duties

Instruction & Information Literacy

  • Design and deliver course-integrated and standalone information literacy instruction across disciplines

  • Develop online learning objects and instructional content (e.g., tutorials, guides, videos)

  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate library resources and information literacy outcomes into course curricula

  • Assess instruction effectiveness and contribute to programmatic learning assessment efforts

Outreach & Engagement

  • Serve as the primary liaison to instructional departments, student services, and special programs to integrate library support into teaching and learning

  • Develop and coordinate outreach activities to promote library services, events, and resources across all modalities of the college community

  • Plan and execute library programming and workshops that support academic success and campus engagement

  • Represent the library on campus committees and working groups

Reference & Research Support

  • Provide in-person, virtual, and asynchronous research assistance to students, faculty, and staff

  • Maintain currency with reference tools, databases, and evolving research strategies

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of online research guides and tools

General Library Services & Administration

  • Contribute to collection development

  • Assist with circulation, policy development, and daily library operations as needed

  • Support continuous improvement efforts and special projects within the library

  • Participate in professional development and campus-wide initiatives aligned with the college’s mission

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program

  • 1 Year of related experience

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in an academic library setting, preferably in instruction or outreach

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and students

  • Familiarity with research databases, library technologies, and academic publishing

  • Familiarity with AI as a research resource

  • Commitment to quality in education and librarianship 

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

  • Effective time management and project coordination skills

Minimum Starting Salary Information:

This position is at a salary grade B. The minimum of the placement range is $60,644.54. The selected candidate will be placed at or above the minimum based on education and experience. WNC's placement range falls within the NSHE salary schedule: NSHE ADMINISTRATIVE SALARY SCHEDULE

Retirement – NSHE Faculty Retirement Plan Alternative (RPA)

All faculty and professional staff working at least half-time equivalent must participate in the NSHE Faculty Retirement Plan Alternative (RPA) as a condition of employment. The current contribution rate is 19.25%. Your contribution is matched by the College at 19.25%.

Your contributions are made by pre-tax salary reduction and you are 100% vested from your first day. You choose how to invest your own and NSHE’s contributions. Faculty and staff who have previously participated in the Public Employees’ Retirement System of Nevada (PERS) may be required to continue participation in PERS. 


The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) does not participate in the federal Social Security System but does contribute to the federal Medicare program. This means that while you are employed by NSHE neither you nor NSHE contribute to Social Security and you do not earn a Social Security benefit.
