Your roles and responsibilities
If you are an experienced ophthalmology clinician, enjoy working in a team striving to provide the best quality of care based on current evidence, and you would like to match some of the pros of academia (clinical research, supervision and teaching of residents, interns and students), with the financial rewards and challenging caseload of a private practice, this is the chance you have been waiting for!
DWR Veterinary Specialists is looking for an experienced ophthalmologist to join our team. Founded in 2003 by Professor Dick White, DWR has grown rapidly to become one of the largest private veterinary referral hospitals in the UK. DWR is a busy, purpose-built specialist referral-only small animal veterinary hospital conveniently located in Cambridgeshire between Newmarket, the home of horse racing and Cambridge, with its world-renowned University and amenities.
Benefits
DWR has a newly opened state-of-the-art hospital which is fully equipped with the surgical, diagnostic and hospitalisation facilities commensurate with a flagship specialist veterinary hospital and has an on-site reference laboratory with both in-house clinical pathology and diagnostic histopathology. As part of our ongoing drive for excellence, we have a new building underway onsite that will double the size of our facilities and create a truly world-class hospital. We are dedicated to excellence, trust and care in all we do as a hospital, as an employer and also to the development of veterinary professionals.
We are an Educational Partner with the University of Nottingham and run regular CPD events. Within the ophthalmology team, we encourage case discussion, teaching of interns and residents in all disciplines, along with CPD provision for our referring vets.
The ideal candidate would be able to assist with our busy caseload and have good medical and surgical ophthalmological skills. This position would suit an experienced advanced practitioner, those that have completed residency training or an ECVO/ACVO diplomate.
The position becomes available in early 2026. You will work alongside a team of approximately 40 Specialists in various disciplines (soft tissue, orthopaedics, anaesthesia, ophthalmology, internal medicine, emergency and critical care, oncology, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, clinical pathology and pathology), who together strive to achieve clinical excellence.
