The Nurse Manager is a dynamic, professional RN leader responsible for the clinical, operational, and business management of assigned unit(s). This role fosters a high-performing team environment focused on excellence in patient care, staff recruitment and retention, quality outcomes, and fiscal responsibility.

The Nurse Manager sets the tone for the unit—holding teams accountable, strengthening communication, and ensuring exceptional care delivery. As the unit’s chief retention and safety officer, this leader uses data, technology, and evidence-based practices to promote quality, safety, and a positive workplace culture.

Core Responsibilities

Resources & Support

  • Engage team members in shared decision-making and relationship-based care to support patient-centered outcomes and service excellence.

  • Serve as the unit's primary retention and safety leader, ensuring responsible use of human and material resources.

  • Manage financial resources effectively, using lean principles to reduce waste and optimize clinical and operational performance.

  • Support strategic marketing and communication efforts to advance the service line.

Interdisciplinary Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Communicate clearly with diverse audiences and hold staff accountable for performance standards.

  • Build strong partnerships with staff, medical providers, and other departments through fairness, transparency, and reflective practice.

  • Foster a healthy work environment by resolving conflict, coaching team members, and promoting positive team dynamics.

  • Create opportunities for professional growth and support initiatives that attract and retain talented staff.

Exemplary Practice & Outcomes

  • Promote and ensure staff competency in clinical care delivery.

  • Model professional nursing practice and ethical leadership.

  • Support effective hiring, onboarding, and mentorship for new staff.

  • Promote evidence-based practice, nursing research, and continuous performance improvement.

  • Use data and evidence to support decision-making and maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.

Required Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing – Required

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing – Preferred

Required Licensure & Certifications

  • Registered Nurse – Single-State or Multi-State Compact required.

  • Basic Life Support (AHA) – Required

Required Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of progressive management experience – Required

Required Minimum Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong relationship-building abilities.

  • Knowledge of the healthcare environment and systems thinking.

  • Proven leadership skills, including change management, coaching, and team collaboration.

  • Ability to model professional practice and foster shared governance.

  • Knowledge of risk management, accreditation, regulatory, and licensing requirements.
