Job Summary: This position is located in the Transportation Unit of the Engineering Service at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, KY.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: Physical Effort: Drivers must be alert and aware of surroundings, highway conditions, and weather at all times. There is physical and mental strain on the mind and body which cause tension and slow reflexes. The driver must take driving breaks to regain mental acuity. Working Conditions: Work requires the driver to operate in all kinds of weather conditions. There are many times during the winter when driving must occur in deep snow and on icy streets and highways. The operator is also subject to dust, fumes, and traffic hazards. Driving occurs during both daylight and night hours. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1).
