A Brief Overview
Embeds and cuts a wide variety of dermatologic tissue for Mohs Surgery including Mohs for Melanoma, DFSP, EMPD, and other non-melanoma skin cancers. Sections frozen embedded tissue at 1-7 microns and mounts on microscope slides. Performs a variety of staining techniques, including immunohistochemical procedure and hematoxylin and eosin stain for microscopic evaluation. A Mohs Tech completes daily work, resolving most technical problems that arise, and interprets policies in terms of established objectives and procedures.

What you will do
  • Embed tissue

  • Cut frozen section blocks while maintaining a high-quality product.

  • Cut high quality 3–7-micron sections of small and difficult tissue specimens

  • Prepare non-melanoma Mohs blocks for permanent sections

  • Properly dispose of liquid hazardous waste

  • Comply with all applicable health and safety policies

  • Perform quality control on sections and staining procedures to ensure a high-quality finished product

  • Perform routine H&E stains.

  • Complete daily H&E quality check

  • Filing Mohs tissue slides

  • Function as a PCC to assist in Mohs surgery.

  • Performs other duties as requested


Education Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma from an approved school/institution or equivalent documented training


Experience Qualifications

  • 1-2 years Medical Assistant experience
    Required

  • Entry level Mohs Tech experience Required


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and ability to use and apply medical terminology in performing his/her duties.

  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.

  • Ability to speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job.

  • Ability to solve problems and identify solutions.

  • Ability to demonstrate customer service skills in interactions with all patients, families, and staff, including high volume and stressful situations.

  • Ability to work independently as well as an integral part of the patient care team.

  • Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures.

  • Ability to demonstrate business communication skills including speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job (including legible penmanship/handwriting, knowledge of grammar and syntax and ability to write clear and concise clinical reports)

  • Ability to learn and grasp and update clinical knowledge on a regular basis (through HealthStream classes, continuing education and other work-related courses and training) to adapt to an ever-changing healthcare environment.


Licenses and Certifications

  • BLS - Basic Life Support preferred

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $48.38 - $54.48 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
