Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), Space, Intelligence & Weapons Systems (SI&WS) is seeking an Mission Engineering Manager with a strong background in Operations & Mission Engineering to join our Government Systems Operations (GSO) team in Springfield, VA (Chantilly, VA).

The Mission Operations Manager (East) is responsible for the overall safety and performance of the space vehicles flown out of the East Coast Facility. This position also manages approximately 15 Boeing direct reports and is responsible for hiring and performance management.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support the Program Flight Operations and/or Mission Engineering Manager in functional and personnel management of a team of approximately 15 engineers, to include staffing and cost account management

  • Managing, developing, and motivating employees through Performance evaluations, performance development and career coaching so that personnel are fully engaged and committed to program success

  • Provide technical guidance, oversight, and leadership to the Mission Engineering or Flight Operations team for a customer satellite constellation

  • Manage special projects and taskers

  • Lead the team through system anomaly and problem resolution processes

  • Assess technical status of critical engineering activities and milestones to program and customer management

  • Perform quality control checks across Engineering or Operations, ensuring necessary processes and procedures are in place

  • Oversee the creation and implementation of Process Improvements across the team

  • Support development of organizational goals and strategy

  • Interface with multiple external engineering organizations, sharing expertise and lessons learned

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • Willing to support a 24/7 on-call rotation environment

  • Spacecraft operations and/or engineering experience

  • 5+ years of experience in the intelligence community interfacing with government customers

  • 2+ years of experience leading teams in a formal and /or informal leadership role

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Current or former team lead, chief engineer, or other leadership role/s in the GSO organization

  • Experience with cost account management and/or earned value management

  • Experience interfacing with US Government operations customers

  • Experience leading a team at a government client location

  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written

  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of management, customers, and partners.

  • Ability to build a safe environment of inclusion, transparency, and trust

  • Experience gaining trust of team and provide guidance for their careers

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range: $151,300 - $204,700
