Key skills and prior experience
To excel in this position, you should possess significant experience in automation testing, coupled with a deep understanding of modern testing concepts and tools. We are looking for candidates with:
- Extensive Automation Testing Expertise: Proven track record in automation testing, demonstrating a comprehensive grasp of its principles and application.
- Technical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of common automation tooling such as Cucumber BDD Framework, Selenium or Cypress (ideal, not mandatory), Java Spring or Node.js, Git Version Control, and Maven. Strong programming skills in Java, JavaScript, or other relevant languages are essential, alongside API & Contract Testing skills for REST and/or SOAP APIs.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership: Experience in interfacing effectively with application development teams, technical colleagues, testers, and all levels of management. The ability to coach and mentor others is highly valued.
- Architectural Understanding & Methodological Flexibility: A solid understanding of systems architecture and databases, coupled with the ability to operate effectively within Waterfall, Agile, or Hybrid methodologies.

- Strategic Project Leadership: Successfully manage and plan multiple automation test projects across various test environments, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to best practices.
- Best Practice Integration: Proactively incorporate and champion best practices into the automation testing and governance processes, enhancing overall efficiency and quality.
- Tooling & Scope Optimisation: Collaborate effectively with the Automation Architect to identify suitable automation tooling and define appropriate test automation scope for diverse projects and technologies.
- Reporting & Advocacy: Provide clear, concise, and ongoing reports to senior management on automation progress and outcomes, while actively championing behaviour-driven development practices and continuous testing techniques across the team
What type of work will I be doing?
Your daily activities will involve a dynamic mix of strategic planning, technical implementation, and stakeholder engagement. While exact time allocations may vary, you can expect to:
- Lead Project Management: Oversee project management and planning for multiple automation test initiatives, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
- Technical Implementation & Best Practice: Actively work with the Automation Architect to identify and implement suitable automation tooling and define the scope of test automation. This includes incorporating best practices into testing and governance processes.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting: Liaise with a wide range of high-level stakeholders, providing regular reports to senior management on project status and automation effectiveness.
- Team Support & Advocacy: Support development and test areas by utilising automated tests, and champion behaviour-driven development practices and continuous testing techniques within the team.

- This role is based in Limerick, Ireland.
- Deloitte operates a hybrid working model, blending office-based collaboration with remote work flexibility, allowing you to balance professional and personal commitments effectively.
