Manages operations of area(s) responsible for cardiopulmonary services. Accountable for the quality of patient care in cardiopulmonary services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Associate's degree, obtaining a bachelor’s degree from an academic institution within 2 years of hire.
2. Registered Respiratory Therapist through the National Board for Respiratory Care.
3. Licensed by West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care as a Licensed Respiratory Therapist – Registered (LRTR), or applicable state where services will be performed.
3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
4. ACLS, PALS, and NRP may be required within 30 days of hire based on local hospital requirements. Please reference the list below for local hospital requirements:

- BARNS: ACLS

- BMC: ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 6 months of hire

- JGH: ACLS

- PCH: ACLS, PALS, NRP, and STABLE

- PVH: ACLS

- RMH: POCT Point of Care Technician license through WVDHHR within 30 days of hire

EXPERIENCE:
1. Three (3) years of respiratory experience in a hospital setting with 2 years of supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Master's degree from an academic institution in a related major.
2. Advanced credentials from National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Oversees the daily operations of the Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Services.
2. Determines the department's organizational needs in terms of services offered and staffing requirements.
3. Monitors activities of practitioners to ensure maintenance of standards established by the Respiratory Care/Pulmonary Department, American Association for Respiratory Care, National Board for Respiratory Care, West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care, Joint Commission or DNV, College of American Pathologists, The National Fire Protection Agency and the American Thoracic Society Standards for Pulmonary Functions.
4. Participates in planning and implementing change and maintaining and improving productivity through attendance and participation in staff meetings, committees, task forces, projects and discussions with Administrative Director.
5. Carries out special projects as designated by Administration in order to meet the needs of the patients, the department and the organization.
6. Serves as a key resource for Respiratory Care and other healthcare personnel as related to respiratory care policies/procedures and acts as departmental liaison in conjunction with Administration.
7. Monitors and assures clinical competency of Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Services personnel and the appropriateness and effectiveness of care delivered through the use of the Hospital’s performance improvement process and quality assurance plan.
8. Provides feedback regarding employee performance through appropriate use of the departmental/hospital reward and recognition programs, coaching reports, and progressive disciplinary process.
9. Coordinates staffing needs including interviewing and hiring of personnel, scheduling, and other related activities.
10. Actively participates in achievement of goals and objectives Respiratory Care and Pulmonary Services and departmental personnel.
11. Participates in financial activities including the budgetary process and monitoring of expenditures.13. Provides assistance with employee education through coordination of clinical in-services and other staff/leadership development activities.
12. Actively participates in departmental, interdepartmental and hospital-wide committees for the overall improvement of the institution
