Messenger

Organizational Setting and Work Relationships

The role of a Messenger is to collect and deliver mail, pouches and other communications from and to the post office, government agencies and other institutions. The Messenger normally reports to an administrative function in an operation.

All UNHCR staff members are accountable to perform their duties as reflected in their job description. They do so within their delegated authorities, in line with the regulatory framework of UNHCR which includes the UN Charter, UN Staff Regulations and Rules, UNHCR Policies and Administrative Instructions as well as relevant accountability frameworks. Duties
- Collects and delivers mail, pouches and other communications from and to the post office, government agencies and other institutions;
- Sorts, delivers and picks up mail from various offices on the premises at regular intervals. Keeps records as required;
- Packs material received for dispatch, affixes labels, inserts material in envelopes and franks outgoing mail;
- Operates photocopying and duplicating machines;

- Support the identification and management of risks and seek to seize opportunities impacting objectives in the area of responsibility. Ensure decision making in risk based in the functional area of work. Raise risks, issues and concerns to a supervisor or to relevant functional colleague(s).
- Perform other related duties as required.

Desired Candidate Profile

Specific Duties, in addition to standard TOR:

• Preparing and dispatching outgoing mail, including packaging, labeling, and postage.
• Supporting delivery and shipment processes with accurate documentation and timely handling.
• Operating basic office equipment (e.g., photocopiers, shredders) to assist administrative functions.
• Coordinating minor maintenance tasks by liaising with service providers, Landlord and staff.
• Managing inventory of office supplies (e.g., furniture, food), ensuring proper tracking and availability.
• Setting up furniture and seating for meetings and events.
• Monitoring the office diesel generator to ensure timely maintenance and operational readiness.
• Performing other duties as required to support office operations.

Technical education is desirable, particularly in areas such as electrical maintenance, logistics, or facility operations.

Prior experience in a similar role is an asset.
