Summary:
The Merit Awards and Career Center Program Assistant provides front-line support for the Office of Merit Awards (OMA) and the AU Career Center. The Office of Merit Awards oversees the mentoring of applicants for nationally competitive, merit-based scholarships (such as the Fulbright Grant and Boren Scholarship) that help fund study abroad, graduate education, and high-level work and research experience.
The Merit Awards Program and Career Center Assistant is responsible for providing front-line service in the form of scheduling appointments for the Office of Merit Awards and the AU Career Center and answering other inquiries from members of the AU community in-person, over the phone, and email. Other duties include promoting scholarship information sessions and workshops, including through OMA’s Instagram account, preparing materials and handouts, tracking applicants and maintaining candidates’ dossiers, and assisting the office’s Associate Director with the Early Identification Program for outstanding sophomores. The program assistant interacts with students, faculty and staff mentors, and national scholarship foundation representatives.

Current AU student.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized with strong editing and writing skills.
Must be comfortable with social media, particularly Instagram.
Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment; experience in a customer-service position required.
The candidate should be able to greet students, faculty, and staff in person, over the phone, and over email, and should be dependable, willing to take initiative and work independently, and have experience using Microsoft programs.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Preference will be given to candidates who can commit to working more than one semester, and to candidates who have demonstrated knowledge of nationally competitive scholarships.
