What we want
The Medical Assistant, under supervision, is responsible for providing direct patient care in coordination with clinicians. Conducts basic office-based medical tasks and performs basic clinical procedures to include injection and medication administrations. Cleans, sterilizes, and stocks exam rooms and medical equipment.

Other Requirements and Factors:
This position is security sensitive. The individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations. The individual is required to handle PHI in accordance with the A&M System policy and is further required to complete HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable time-frame after the individual’s employment, and on an as-needed basis thereafter.
This is an in-person position, located at the Beutel Health Center on TAMU Main Campus.
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.
Able to stand for 80% of shift
Essential Duties/Tasks
Patient Care
Provides patient care activities daily.
Transfers patients from reception area to exam rooms, measures vital signs, obtains height and weight, interviews patients for medical history, and updates health information in the EHR.
Administers medications and injections as directed by a clinician.
Performs basic procedures including EKGs, vision/hearing screening, ear lavage, spirometry, nebulizer treatments, swabs, and fitting orthopedic supplies.
Prepares patients for exams and explains procedures.
Assists and/or chaperones providers during exams.
Documents care activities in the EHR.
Medical Office
Greets patients and provides assistance and direction.
Answers telephone and responds to routine inquiries or transfers calls.
Obtains electronic signatures for consent to treat.
Assists with inventory and office equipment maintenance.
Stocks patient care areas as needed.
Safety and Compliance
Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes exam rooms and medical instruments per infection control policies.
Maintains a clean and safe environment.
Completes continuing education as required by certifying board and department policy.
Administrative Support
May assist in training student worker nursing assistants.
Participates on committees as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two years of related experience in a medical office, hospital, nursing home, or home health setting.
Required Licenses or certifications:
Must obtain Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification or registration prior to start date and maintain it as a condition of employment.
Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 6 months of employment.
Eligible for certification or registration with:
American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), or
American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or
National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in a college healthcare environment.
Completion of a Medical Assistant course of study.
Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to apply basic medical techniques.
Basic EMR documentation skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time management abilities.
