The Opportunity

Our Northern BC team are seeking a multiskilled, team oriented Mechanical Technician who is proficient in troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating natural gas compressors and related auxiliary equipment. The successful candidate will reside in the Groundbirch or Dawson Creek area, and report primarily out of our Wilde Lake Compressor Station.

The regular work schedule for this position will be:

Week 1 – Monday to Thursday 9 hours per day; 8 hours on Friday

Week 2 – Monday to Thursday 9 hours per day; Friday off

What You'll Do

  • Troubleshoot, operate and maintain gas-fired turbine engines, gas compressors, standby generator engines, centrifugal and diaphragm pumps, oil coolers, air compressors, large-bank cooler fans and gear boxes, large diameter valves and operators, and other auxiliary equipment
  • Operate compressor engines and support equipment
  • Operate and maintain valves and operators
  • Inspect, repair and set regulators and relief valves
  • Blow down, purge and pressurize pipelines and/or stations
  • Plan, coordinate and perform mechanical maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements and major maintenance projects
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
  • Manage contractors and vendors while on-site
  • Assist in planning of work and participate as necessary in safety and/or team meetings and discussions
  • Other tasks as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years mechanical experience with internal combustion engines
  • Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software
  • Ability to understand piping drawings
  • Basic knowledge of instrumentation and electrical troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyperson with one of the following: Heavy Duty Mechanic, Millwright, Gas Turbine Technician
  • Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting turbine engines
  • Experience maintaining reciprocal compressors
  • Relevant oil and gas industry experience
  • Ability to interpret technical reference documents
  • Ability to work self-guided with minimal supervision

This position requires candidates to

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol  testing
  • Be subject to call out on a rotational schedule and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather, heavy lifting and temperatures and cramped conditions
